Cedar Ridge Children's Home

Now known as Cedar Ridge Ministries, the founding of a facility in Western Maryland to care for abused, abandonded, and neglected boys was a vision share by a local advisory group and a missionary family from a church in Holland, Michigan. Jack and Doris Drooger arrived in Hagerstown, Maryland, in mid-July 1963 to begin the work of establishing a children's home.

Through the years, the ministry added additional housing units, established an on campus school that served the children's home and the county school system, created services to improve care, and founded an FM Christian radio station to benefit the three-state community.

The story of the first few years of Cedar Ridge is best shared through the communication shared from Maryland to the home church in Michigan. The newsletters below were sent on a monthly basis by Doris Drooger to Immanuel Church in Holland. A sample is included to provide a picture of the inception and progress of the children's home.
